A
native Texan and 2005 MFA graduate of the Florida State University
Film School, Susan has been working to hone her filmmaking skills
for the past ten years. She holds a telecommunication degree from
Baylor University, worked for an international documentary company
for five years, and freelanced on various productions shot in
Texas before entering FSU.
Susan
independently wrote, produced and directed the 35mm children's
horror short THE
PATCHWORK MONKEY, which played at 17 festivals, won several
awards and was licensed by the Independent Film Channel for
cable broadcast in 2003. Her filmography as a writer/director
includes three additional short films, including her master's
thesis THE RESURRECTIONIST. Susan also served as the UPM and
associate producer on FIELDS
OF MUDAN, a 2004 FSU thesis film about young Chinese girls
in the sex trade and the winner of several major festival awards.
In
2005, Susan was named the women's honorable mention winner in
the prestigious Directors Guild of America student competition.
She also was chosen to participate in the Telluride Film Festival
Student Symposium, and received a MPSE Golden Reel nomination
for her sound editing on THE RESURRECTIONIST. Her writing skills
have earned her recognition as a Chesterfield semi-finalist
and Sundance finalist, and she is currently at work on a feature
script for a supernatural thriller. She currently lives in Los
Angles and is pursuing a writing and directing career while
working as the assistant to the producers of ROBOT CHICKEN.
Ben
Kim was born in Atlanta, grew up in Atlanta, and even went to
school in Atlanta. He studied at Emory University, and his love
of film started at a young age. But, if everyone has a seminal
moment or film when they first realized that they must become
a filmmaker, it was for him the film KARATE KID. Not that he
ever wants to make a film like it (and not that it's a bad film
or anything). Ben came to FSU to become a filmmaker, and, during
the past two years, wrote and directed three films, and produced
two thesis films, MOON
DANCE and THE RESURRECTIONIST. Ben plans to write and direct
something, hopefully legitimate, in the future.
Film
composer Luis Gonzalez holds a BM in Film Scoring/Performance
from Berklee College of Music and a MA in Music Composition
from Tufts University. Following graduation, he worked for the
Emmy-winning film composer Michael Whalen as an assistant music
editor on scoring projects for such major networks as Discovery
Channel, National Geographic, Hallmark and WGBH.
His
credits include music and production for short films (Tony Flanagan's
THE FREELANCER; Susan Bell's THE PATCHWORK MONKEY) and commercials,
as well as CD recordings and performances as guitarist/violinist
with the Venezuelan rock bands "Alter Ego" and "Sara es Rara",
the salsa band "Ajidewe-Son" and the jazz group "Zumbao Trio."
Such a diverse experience allows him to seamlessly blend different
styles, from classical to jazz, from ethnic to rock. In 2001,
he was honored as a finalist in the Turner Classic Movies Young
Film Composers Competition. He also produced 2 songs included
in the HBO film MISSING
PEACE (Audience Award for Best Feature, Slamdance 2003).
Houston
Hawkins was born and raised in Edmond, Oklahoma. The son of
two high school teachers, Houston grew up a well-rounded kid
who was both a good student and an all-state athlete. After
graduating from The University of Oklahoma, where he majored
in Film and Video Studies, he coached high school track while
working as an overnight editor at the Oklahoma City CBS news
affiliate. Looking for the opportunity to become a filmmaker
and continue his education, Houston enrolled at Florida State
University in the fall of 2004. His design and carpentry talents
were put to the test as production designer on THE RESURRECTIONIST.
Sharon
Jacobs was born and raised in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania.
She received two Bachelors of Arts from the University of Nevada
Las Vegas in Theatre Arts and Film. She is currently a second
year graduate student at Florida State University Film School
and has directed and worked in several different crew positions
on many films. THE RESURRECTIONIST is her third credit as an art
director. |
